Nearly 150 guests were present to celebrate NASSA’s 20th year as a registered charity supporting young people on their journey through life while Mayor Hussain spoke proudly of his own upbringing in the London Borough of Newham.
Mayor Hussain said: “Having grown up in Newham, attending local schools and choosing to raise my children here, I know first hand the extraordinary potential of our local young people. NASSA is a shining example of how the right guidance and support can turn that potential into achievement.
The work NASSA has done for over 20 years is nothing short of remarkable, transforming the lives of more than 100,000 young people by helping them turn their dreams into reality.”
Other speakers included Sir Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham and Unmesh Desai, London Assembly member for City and East.
As well as raising funds to continue NASSA’s pioneering mentoring work, the guests were treated to an old-time music hall show.
Funds for NASSA were raised for NASSA via a raffle and an auction, with prizes ranging from weekend stays at London hotels to football shirts signed by members of Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning squad.
NASSA Chief Executive Natasha Hart MBE said: “It is always so heart-warming to see the love that is felt for NASSA within the London business networks as well as the local communities that we support. It makes everyone at NASSA realise that the work we do is truly valued.”
